How to Measure your Stairs for Stair Rods

If you are like most homeowners out there, when the flooring store salesman asks you how many stair rods you need or how wide your stairs are...you draw a blank.  Not to worry!  Here you will find complete instructions on how to measure your stairs for stair rods.

It is actually quite simple:

  1. Measure the width of the stair runner
  2. Add 1 1/2 inches to the width of the stair runner
  3. Stair Runner Width + 1 1/2 inches = Stair Rod Length
  4. Count the number of Stair Treads you will need, which is the amount of Stair Rods you will need
With this information, you will be able to go to your local flooring store and tell them exactly what you need, how wide your stair rods should be, how many you will need.  Now all you need to do is choose your stair rod finish, finial and rod design.
