Commercial Carpet Installation - How Important Is It?
Commercial Carpet Installation
When a business is shopping around for a commercial carpet they can shop for Carpet ONLY, Carpet Installation ONLY or both Carpet & Installation.
It is always a good idea to purchase your commercial carpet and installation from the same place because if there are problems with the carpet or the installers you only have to go to one place. One of the major problems the commercial flooring consumer will encounter is a delay in the manufacturing of the commercial carpet which will delay the delivery of the carpet but the consumer is not notified, the job is booked so this means the carpet installers are showing up, when the installers show up as scheduled - big problem, no carpet to install! It can also go the other way, you can have the commercial carpet delivered and ready for installation but the carpet installers are a no show. This is why we always advise that you purchase both the commercial carpet and the installation from a reputable, local commercial flooring company. A reputable commercial carpet flooring company will have their own certified staff of licensed, insured and bonded carpet installers. You will be able to choose whether you must have union or non-union labor. You have to remember that the carpet installation is just as important, if not more important, as the commercial carpet you purchase. No matter how outstanding the quality, design and price of your commercial carpet is, if it is not installed properly it will not function properly and will need to be replaced sooner rather than later.
You must also consider your sub-floor. What if you need floor prep? Are you going to hire another company for that? You shouldn't have to. A good commercial flooring company will provide you with everything you need starting with the floor prep. It's usually existing floor removal whether it's carpet or tile, haul-away which is disposing of the existing flooring, followed by floor prep which can include leveling the floor then you finally get to commercial carpet installation.
Did you also know that commercial carpet manufacturers will not honor a claim on the warranty if it is due to faulty or improper carpet installation? That's right. Yet another reason to purchase your carpet and installation from a reputable commercial flooring company that has been around and is not going anywhere. Let's face it, in this economy, many businesses are struggling or even going under. The ones that are withstanding this economy are the ones that set themselves apart from the competition with superior commercial carpet products and installation.
Bottom line...do your research and then research some more. Call them, you can find out about a company by talking with their staff. Is the person friendly, knowledgeable, helpful? Ask them for references or pictures of commercial carpet or other commercial flooring installations to see if they can handle your job. You should also be able to get a free commercial carpet installation estimate with no obligation, take advantage of this offer. You can meet the person that represents the flooring company you will potentially be working with and they will come to you with commercial carpet samples that match your design and budget criteria.

Should you purchase carpet, hardwood flooring or area rugs online?
We get so many phone calls from people who ask us if they should buy their flooring online...It depends. Have you seen the carpet, hardwood floor or area rug in person at your local flooring store already and just shopping around for price?
Flooring has to be seen, needs to be touched. We can't see the beauty of a Nourison 2000 Collection Area Rug on a computer screen, doesn't matter how high-def! It also depends on your monitor's brightness, color and contrast setting. The area rugs in the Nourison 2000 Collection are 100% wool with beautiful silk accents! You have to see the gorgeous shine of the silk in person under lighting to truly appreciate the beautiful area rugs.
In addition to feeling and seeing a flooring product in person whether it be carpet or hardwood, you should know that the major flooring manufacturers like Mohawk, Shaw, Armstrong, Mannington, Masland and every other flooring brand you can think of will only honor their warranty if the flooring is purchased from an AUTHORIZED DEALER.
Sure you will find cheap flooring online especially if it's only an internet based flooring company. Remember that professional carpet and hardwood flooring installation is just as important as the flooring you choose. If you buy your flooring online, who will you go to when there is a problem in a couple of years? If you bought it online from an unauthorized dealer, the warranty you thought you had is no good! You should always deal with a local flooring store that has their own certified installers that is authorized to sell the product and guarantees their installation. And please please please don't buy your flooring from the same place you would buy a toilet bowl! Go to a local store that specializes in flooring only!
You should also know that manufacturers restrict the minimum internet sale price. What does this mean in English? For example, you will find almost identical pricing for Nourison Area Rugs online - this is because Nourison wants to keep the market fair and will not allow pricing lower than a set minimum. This protects their dealers. However, did you know that they can not tell us what to price the area rugs in our store? That's right, you will actually SAVE money if you shop at your local area rug shop!
All the major flooring manufacturers frown upon purchasing flooring online and some simply don't allow internet sales:
Mannington's Internet Purchasing Policy
Armstrong's Internet Policy for Flooring Purchases Online
Mirage Hardwood Flooring is NOT available for purchase online, at least they are NOT AUTHORIZED

Carpet Remnants - Best Value for your Dollar!
Buying a carpet remnant is a great way to buy a really high quality carpet at a really low price. A carpet remnant is left-over carpet. Don't be scared by the word, left-over, it's a good thing and works to your advantage.
There are times when it is more beneficial for the flooring store owner to buy a whole roll of carpet instead of cut orders. For example, someone is carpeting their house and needs 1,000 square feet of carpet. The flooring store then checks stock with a manufacturer, like Mohawk, Shaw, Stanton or Nourison...great quality carpets. When stock is checked, there is a 100 foot roll available. This particular roll is 12 feet wide and 100 feet long...so we have 1,200 square feet of carpet but we only need 1,000. The remaining 200 square feet can carpet a space that is 12 x 16.
A local flooring store, like Floor Expo would buy the whole roll, use what we need and sell the rest of the carpet as a remnant. You, the customer, are going to get a great deal because that carpet was ordered for someone else, the carpet is already in stock and bottom line, we just want to get rid of it. That is why carpet remnants are so cheap money wise but not cheap quality wise!
Floor Expo in Fairfield, NJ has a huge inventory of carpet remnants for sale in our New Jersey Flooring Store.
